Description

Budanilkantha which is a Hindu-Buddhist spiritual pilgrimage area is one of the most popular holy shrines for Hindus and Buddhists all over the world. This holy shrine of Vishnu has a magnificent statue of Lord Vishnu which is said to be sculpted from a single black stone. This remarkable statue of Lord Vishnu, which lies upon Sesh Naga, appears to be floating upon the surface of the pond. The length of this very statue is 20ft, width 12ft and is of 3ft in height.
The significance of Sleeping Vishnu statue is an embodiment of Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Buddha and Krishna. Each part of the body symbolizes a different deity. Lord Vishnu has been believed to be savior of human race. Hindus from different part of the globe visit this holy shrine for success and prosperity in their life.
Puja in this holy statue is performed by an unmarried priest every morning between 9-10, and Aarati is performed between 6 and 7 every evening.
Saturday is considered to be an appropriate day for offering Puja in this temple. The main festive fare is in Kartik (Oct-Nov) and Baishak (April-May). Its is believed that visiting or worshipping this shrine at the time of THULO EKADASHI ease pain away for the devotee.
